Car show music - 07-28-2010, 06:56 PM

Can we please play some music that is more oriented toward the car culture at our shows? Is an I-Pod the only music source we can use or is it possible to plug a portable CD player into the PA system? I have a fairly nice Kenwood mini CD player that works similar to an I-Pod where you listen through headphones. I have a lot of music and perhaps others have some they wouldn't mind sharing. Perhaps we could put together a couple of "Car Show CD's" with music that is more fitting. Others have expressed a similar view point. I don't own an I-Pod or any MP3 player but there are plenty to choose from in all price ranges. Maybe the club could purchase one for car show events.

I have a 4-cd box set from the great Rhino Records called "Hot Rods & Custom Classics: Cruisin' Songs and Highway Hits." If someone wants to borrow it (no scuffs or scratches, please) and put it on an iPod, I will make it available.

Some of the songs are on the obscure side, which a lot of people won't like, but every single one of them is about cars or road trips.

I have a 3 CD set with music from the 60's that has some great classic tunes on it along with some I'm not familiar with. I also have Endless Summer by the Beach Boys and bunch of other CD's that car show enthusiasts could relate to.

I have the club's I-pod at home so I can charge it before the show. If yall know how to down load the songs to it, we can do that while we're setting up for the show.

I also have Endless Summer but on 8-track.

Ha ha, so what GA is saying is not so much that we need songs oriented toward the car culture, but rather that we need oldies to keep the elder statesmen happy.

It really doesn't matter to me either way, though; there will always be some folks who are dissatisfied. Whatever will keep the most people coming back is fine with me.

We could put some Rob Zombie or Marilyn Manson on there along with Hank Williams (Sr.), George Jones, and Conway Twitty. That would really leave them wondering.

That might be cutting it kind of close, I've never used one before.

Nope, it really is about enhancing the experience for the participants. It was a suggestion based upon feedback from participants and club members following previous shows.
