Anyone have any reccomendations on Scan Tools for retrieving info from a car's computer?

Specifically I'm wanting one that will read OBD I & OBD II and will allow me to view live engine data parameters.

I'm considering purchasing the Actron CP9150 kit, which comes with the CP9145 super autoscanner. It lists for $399.99, but Levine Auto and Truck Parts will ship for about $226.

I currently have the Actron CP9135, but it will only display diagnostic trouble codes on OBD II(1996 and newer) equiped vehicles.

Hey Craig,

If I remember correctly, you are computer savvy right? If so, and you have a laptop (or can obtain an old one - they are not expensive for what is needed here?), then I would recommend a computer interface software solution over a hand held device anyday!

Check out these sites - http://www.scantool.net/ and http://www.myscantool.com/- you can purchase a scan tool here for from around $90 to $150, and they works with a whole bunch of software on top of what it comes with, much of which is freeware license and downloadable. USB and serial devices are available.

I also bought a serial cable from them to interface with my old Palm III and use free software on this as well - it's a little more portable than the PC, but still provides much of the functionality.
